PIZZA NIGHT with MATT & JULIE

Join Baker & Spice owners Matt Kappler & Julie Richardson for a delicious and fun evening learning how to craft the perfect pizza pie. Pizza dough, sauce, and an array of toppings will be available for you to make and bake your own pizza. Enjoy some for dinner tonight, and take the rest home for dinner tomorrow!

SUMMER PIES with Melissa Carey-Ragland

Melissa Carey-Ragland, Pastry chef at our neighborhood Alba Osteria, will guide you in making your own lattice-topped stone fruit & raspberry pie, then demonstrate a crumb-topped blueberry pie. The pie pastry & lattice topped pie you make are yours to take home and enjoy, and a light lunch will be served before sampling both pies.

Chocolate Décor

Get in touch with your artistic side and see how easy it can be to design your own chocolate transfer. Former Baker & Spice cake baker and Sugarhouse Owner, Erin Gougler Fale, will instruct students in how to create their own chocolate transfer, and then demonstrate a few fun ways to utilize your new skills.

CAKE 101

For those of you who have requested an in depth basic cake class, this is for you! Julie will demonstrate proper creaming technique for the best butter cake, show you how to whip up a batch of buttercream, and then guide you through masking, frosting, and simply, yet beautifully, decorating your cake.

PASTA MAKING III with Jeff Emerson

Join us in welcoming our Hillsdale neighbor Jeff Emerson, from Alba & Caffe Autogrill, back to the SweetWares kitchen for some seasonal filled pastas. In this hands on class, you will learn how to make pea agnolotti and pansotti, a larger pasta stuffed with ricotta, parmesan & greens, whose name means “fat belly”. We’ll eat what Jeff makes in class, and you’ll take home the pasta you make in class for dinner later in the week! Antipasti, salad, bread, dessert & beverages are also included. No previous pasta class required. All equipment provided!

FUN with FONDANT

Former Baker & Spice cake whiz and Sugarhouse Cakes owner, Erin Gougler Fale, will guide you through rolling, covering, and finishing your 6” cake with fondant. She will also show you how to color fondant and how to use fondant cutters to make simple fondant flowers. Equipment & supplies used in class will be provided, as well as a 6” frosted cake for you to cover with fondant and take home to show off. Additional supplies & equipment for future fondant projects will be available for purchase at a 10% discount.

MAKE A PIE with JULIE RICHARDSON

Learn how to make the perfect summer pie. Julie will guide students through making the flakiest, all-butter pie pastry, then provide tips for rolling, filling and baking not only a delicious but beautiful pie. Each participant gets to take home one pie pastry and the berry or peach pie they make in class to bake at home!

BASIC PASTA MAKING with Jeff Emerson

Jeff Emerson, Hillsdale neighbor from Alba & Caffe Autogrill will demystify the pasta making process, guiding students as they make tajarin with a fresh tomato sauce & trofie with pesto. Tajarin is a thin egg noodle, and trofie is an eggless noodle rolled by hand into little squiggly shapes. Buon Appetito!

BASIC CAKES

Just the basics: a demonstration of how to make a great butter cake & a simple frosting really is “the icing on the cake”! Julie will demonstrate how to make a butter cake, devil’s food cake, and simple vanilla buttercream, and some quick and simple frosting techniques. INTRODUCTION TO CANNING with Mary Kay Gehring

We are thrilled to welcome back trained chef & former owner of Viande, Mary Kay Gehring to SweetWares. Mary Kay will demonstrate three canning methods: raw pack, water bath & pressure canning, with three delicious recipes: Spicy Pickles, Ginger Zucchini Marmalade and Basil Tomato Sauce. Mary Kay will also be offering a fruit focused canning class the following day, Sunday, August 22nd. No prerequisite is required for either class.

SUMMER IN A JAR with Mary Kay Gehring

Mary Kay joins us again to help us with our abundance of fruit! She will demonstrate a plum chutney, a mixed fruit preserve, and a blueberry pancake sauce. Exact fruit subject to change depending on what is most abundant at the time of the class. Mary Kay will demonstrate the water bath canning method, and provide some food safety guidelines for your canning adventures.

FONDANT FLOWERS

This introductory lesson in fondant will cover how to color fondant, and how to cut and shape beautiful flowers. Fondant flowers are a striking accent on any special occasion cake or cupcakes. Learn how easy they can be….

Gather a group of your 10 favorite people for one of our themed sessions.

Birthday Cookies $250
Make a mess in our kitchen! Come decorate cookies and then celebrate with a Baker and Spice birthday cake. Best for ages 5 and up.

Birthday Cakes $300
Come decorate personal 4 inch cakes and then celebrate with an 8 inch Baker & Spice birthday cake. (Each guest brings their personal cake home as a favor). Best for ages 8 and up.

Pie Night $350
Gather a good group of friends and learn how to make really great pie. Then eat it! Best for teens and adults.

Pizza Pie $350
Learn to make and toss a pie like nobody's business. Then enjoy the results. All ages welcome. Pizza, salad and beverages served.

Each 2-3 hour party includes instruction, supplies and basic beverages (soft drinks, coffee/teas). Additional food and beverages can be supplied for an additional fee upon request in advance.

 

About classes at SweetWares:

Do I receive a discount at the store?
As a thank you, each student will receive a 10% savings on purchases made the day of class.

What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations up to 48 hours in advance of the class will receive a full refund or transfer to another class of equal value. To cancel a class, please email SweetWares at sweetwares@comcast.net. We regret that we will be unable to give a refund or credit to cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the class.

What should I wear?
We ask that you wear comfortable, casual clothing and closed-toed/rubber soled shoes.

How many students are in each class?
We want to make the classes comfortable and fun therefore we have limited the class size to 10 students for demos and 8 students for hands-on classes, with a minimum of 5. We reserve the right to cancel a class that falls below our minimum requirement. We will issue you a refund if a class is cancelled.

Do I need to bring an apron and utensils?
You don't need to think about anything excepting enjoying the class; SweetWares will provide you with all the supplies you need to participate.
